Timon Knol

Founder & Creator of StretchedOut

My name is Timon, and I created StretchedOut while training for a 14-kilometer run with my dad. We were training together — until he couldn’t continue. As a surgeon, he works long hours standing upright in the operating room. Over time, that caused mobility issues and made it difficult for him to keep training with me.

That was tough to watch, especially as his son. It made me realize something bigger: Our society isn’t built to support long-term health — it’s built around short-term priorities. People spend hours sitting. They skip recovery. They wait until something hurts before doing something about it.

I wanted to change that — by making stretching easier, smarter, and more rewarding. Stretching isn’t about doing the splits. It’s about preventing injuries, moving better, and feeling healthier — even when life gets busy.

It’s also one of the few things you can do every day that improves your physical and mental well-being without needing equipment or a gym.

I’ve always been fascinated by medicine and even considered becoming a neurosurgeon. But then I watched a video by a surgeon who left the field — because he realized many of the patients he treated didn’t need surgery. They needed prevention: better nutrition, movement, habits, and support earlier on. That shifted something in me.

I don’t want to profit from people in crisis. I want to help them before they ever get there. I studied psychology, and I saw the same thing: we wait until people are at a breaking point to help them.

What if we helped earlier? StretchedOut is my answer to that question. It’s my way of saying: your body matters — take care of it before it breaks.

And you don’t need hours. You just need a few minutes, some guidance, and the right support. That’s why I made StretchedOut.
